The Gold Reaper Review: 92 Weeks of Live Trading on a Gold Breakout System
The Gold Reaper is that rare gold EA with no grid, no martingale and a stop loss on every trade. The author's live signal has run 92 weeks: +261.56%, 71.95% win rate, 16.05% max drawdown. Here's how the strategy works, how to read that record, and who it does and doesn't suit.

There's a pattern in the gold EA market: the ones that survive longest are rarely the ones with the loudest returns. The Gold Reaper (by Profalgo Limited / Wim Schrynemakers) is firmly in the survivor camp — its live signal has now run 92 weeks (roughly 21 months) for +261.56% with a 16.05% maximum drawdown. In a category drowning in "10x in three months" claims, that combination is worth a serious look.
The strategy: breakouts, not grids
The logic is refreshingly plain: enter when a significant support or resistance level breaks, primarily on H1, with the option to run several timeframes at once to spread entry timing. What matters most are three things the author commits to explicitly:
- No grid, no martingale — it never averages into a losing position. That single choice separates it from most "guaranteed gold" EAs (why this matters: are grid and martingale EAs dangerous?).
- Every trade carries a stop loss and take profit, with trailing variants. Your worst case per trade is known in advance rather than "hold it until it comes back".
- Frequency and position size adjust automatically to account balance and your maximum drawdown setting, from conservative to aggressive.
That structure defines its personality: no euphoric months, but also far less chance of an overnight wipeout. The natural cost of a breakout system is a run of small stop-outs in ranging markets. That isn't a bug — it's the premium you pay for the hard stop.
How to read the live record (don't stop at +261%)
The author's official MQL5 signal is the most valuable part of this review, because it is verifiable at source — it isn't a backtest we ran ourselves:
- 92 weeks live — the hardest single data point here. It spans the large 2025 gold swings, not a cherry-picked two months.
- +261.56% cumulative across 820 trades, profit factor 2.24.
- 71.95% win rate — high for a breakout system, which suggests fairly tight entry filtering.
- 16.05% maximum drawdown — the number to actually focus on. It means that at the worst entry point, the account sat 16% underwater. Whether you can hold through that without intervening is what decides whether you ever see the 261%.
Put in human terms: +261% over about 21 months works out to roughly 6% compounded per month — a reasonable rather than spectacular figure, which is precisely why it's credible (see realistic monthly returns from an EA).
Who it suits
- Traders who want a strategy they can explain: breakout plus a hard stop is transparent — you can always say why a loss happened.
- Prop firm challenge accounts: it's explicitly built with that in mind, including randomisation options for compliance. A hard stop and a 16%-class drawdown behave far better under trailing rules than any grid (see using an EA to pass a prop firm challenge).
- Portfolios missing a breakout leg: if you already run mean-reversion or scalping logic, adding a breakout system genuinely lowers correlation (see building a multi-EA portfolio).
Who it doesn't suit
- Anyone wanting a green month every month: it will take consecutive small losses in chop. That's structural — no parameter set fixes it.
- Accounts below the author's floor: he states $600 minimum. Below that, stop distances get compressed past the point of usefulness.
- Traders who can't sit through open drawdown: 16% sounds modest until it's happening in your own account.
Practical setup
- XAUUSD on H1 as the primary timeframe (multi-timeframe to spread entries).
- A low-spread ECN/RAW account and a 24/5 VPS — gold spread eats breakout profits directly (do the maths: what gold EA spread really costs).
- Run a full week on demo first to confirm your broker's spread and slippage behaviour before going live.
Verdict
The Gold Reaper is not the EA whose equity curve makes you reach for your wallet on sight — its returns are measured and its drawdown is real. But 92 weeks of verifiable live trading, no grid or martingale, and a hard stop on every trade is a genuinely rare combination in a category this crowded with wreckage. If what you want is something you can leave running, explain to yourself, and whose worst case you can estimate, it belongs on your shortlist.
We carry the officially licensed The Gold Reaper MT5; the package includes both v4.5 and v4.3 (the older build is steadier on some broker feeds). The product page links straight to the author's MQL5 signal so you can verify every figure above yourself.
Risk note: the figures above come from the author's public MQL5 signal and are verifiable at source, but past performance does not indicate future results. Breakout strategies take consecutive stop-outs in ranging markets. Forex and derivatives trading carries high risk — use only money you can afford to lose and assess suitability yourself. This is not investment advice.

Lizard is a six-strategy XAUUSD breakout system — no martingale, no grid, a stop on every trade, $250 minimum. Live at 12 weeks: +65.59%, 112 trades, 14.74% max drawdown. But the most useful thing about it is how much those numbers moved between week 9 and week 12.
TwisterPro is a gold breakout stop-entry scalper, no grid/martingale, rejecting ~99% of setups. A professional take on mechanism, flat periods and raw-spread dependency.
UBS runs dozens of independent breakout sub-strategies from a single chart. Live at 11 weeks: +16.18%, 543 trades, profit factor 1.27, 11% max drawdown. More important than the numbers: without the autoloader your backtest will be wrong — which is how this EA gets misjudged.
