Lizard MT5 Review: A $40 Gold Breakout EA — and a Lesson in Short Track Records
Lizard is a six-strategy XAUUSD breakout system — no martingale, no grid, a stop on every trade, $250 minimum. Live at 12 weeks: +65.59%, 112 trades, 14.74% max drawdown. But the most useful thing about it is how much those numbers moved between week 9 and week 12.

Lizard is one of the cheapest gold EAs we carry ($40), and structurally one of the cleanest: XAUUSD only, H1, six breakout strategies running in parallel, no martingale, no grid, a defined stop on every trade.
But the most useful part of this review isn't the feature list. It's how much its live numbers moved in three weeks.
A comparison worth leading with
When we first listed it, our product page quoted the signal at week 9. The signal is now at week 12. Same signal, same EA, three weeks apart:
| Metric | Week 9 | Week 12 (current) |
|---|---|---|
| Total return | +77.92% | +65.59% |
| Win rate | 86.48% | 78.57% |
| Profit factor | 5.82 | 2.25 |
| Max drawdown | 9.68% | 14.74% |
Profit factor fell from 5.82 to 2.25. Drawdown rose from 9.68% to 14.74%. The EA didn't change. Nothing broke. The sample just got bigger.
This is what a short track record actually looks like: early numbers always flatter, because the worst trades haven't happened yet. A profit factor of 5.82 is not sustainable for any strategy — it only tells you the large loss hasn't arrived. Whenever you see an EA with two or three months live and an implausibly high PF, assume it will converge downward (why we publish drawdown: here).
We've since removed that older set of figures from the product page — it now shows only the live signal data, synced daily.
Current live record (author's MQL5 signal)
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Time live | 12 weeks |
| Total return | +65.59% |
| Cumulative profit | $163.98 |
| Total trades | 112 |
| Win rate | 78.57% |
| Profit factor | 2.25 |
| Max drawdown | 14.74% |
Note that cumulative profit is only $163.98 — the +65.59% was earned on an account of roughly $250, matching the author's stated minimum. That isn't a flaw, but you should understand what it means: percentage returns flatter easily on small accounts, and the same strategy at larger size feels spread and slippage differently.
Twelve weeks and 112 trades is still a small sample. PF 2.25 is a healthy number, but it won't be a stable one until 40–50 weeks or more.
What it gets structurally right
- No martingale, no grid, no averaging into losers — every trade carries a defined stop and target. Your worst case per trade is known in advance, which already separates it from most "guaranteed gold" EAs.
- Six strategies in parallel, each with its own stops, targets, trailing logic, magic number and risk weight, smoothing the variance of any single logic.
- Balance-tiered activation: at ≤$1,000 only the A-group strategies run; above $1,000 both A and B groups activate. Small accounts don't get over-diversified.
- Session filtering: GMT sessions whose historical profit factor falls below 1.0 are automatically skipped.
- Layered exits: break-even, trailing stop, trailing take-profit, a stepped "Magic Trail", plus a software-level virtual stop independent of the broker.
- Automatic pause around NFP, and pending orders cancelled before the daily close window.
- Supports a prop-firm daily maximum drawdown limit.
Hard stops, no grid, and a daily drawdown cap is a friendly combination for prop firm challenges (how to choose: using an EA to pass a prop firm challenge).
Who it suits — and who it doesn't
- Good for testing with small capital: $250 minimum and a $40 price make it one of the lowest-cost ways to try a gold EA here.
- Good if you want a transparent structure: breakout plus a hard stop means you can always explain a loss.
- Not for anyone buying on track record alone: 12 weeks is short, and the comparison table above is the reason.
- Not for anyone expecting every month green: breakout systems take runs of small stops in chop. That's structural.
Practical setup
- XAUUSD only, on H1.
- $250 minimum deposit; hedging account, ECN/RAW preferred; 1:100 leverage or higher recommended; run on a VPS.
- Gold spread eats breakout profit directly — price your costs before funding (what gold EA spread really costs).
- Run a week on demo first to confirm your broker's spread and slippage behaviour.
Verdict
For $40, a structurally clean gold breakout EA with no martingale, no grid and a stop on every trade is fair value. But treat it as what it is: a system with 12 weeks live. Small size, money you can afford to lose, and don't read that +65.59% as a forecast. The slide from PF 5.82 to 2.25 is the EA's own reminder of why.

Risk note: figures come from the author's public MQL5 signal (synced 2026-07-30) and are verifiable at source. A 12-week sample is short and past performance does not indicate future results. Forex and derivatives trading carries high risk — use only money you can afford to lose. This is not investment advice.

The Gold Reaper is that rare gold EA with no grid, no martingale and a stop loss on every trade. The author's live signal has run 92 weeks: +261.56%, 71.95% win rate, 16.05% max drawdown. Here's how the strategy works, how to read that record, and who it does and doesn't suit.
UBS runs dozens of independent breakout sub-strategies from a single chart. Live at 11 weeks: +16.18%, 543 trades, profit factor 1.27, 11% max drawdown. More important than the numbers: without the autoloader your backtest will be wrong — which is how this EA gets misjudged.
Gold Snap is the newer sibling to Gold House, built to take profit faster. It rates 5.0 on MQL5 (18 reviews) — but the author's own live signal is only 2 weeks old. This piece breaks down the strategy and how to actually read a brand-new signal.
